Les's Story
Les Riddle was a versatile guard and forward who established himself in Victorian basketball with Coburg. Born in 1953, he represented Australia at the 1978 World Championship in the Philippines, where the Boomers achieved a then-best seventh-place finish.
Riddle made his Olympic debut aged 26 at Moscow 1980. Australia defeated Italy and Sweden during the preliminary stage before moving into the classification round, where victories over Czechoslovakia, Senegal and India helped secure eighth place overall.
He continued representing Australia after the Olympics and was part of the Boomers team that finished fifth at the 1982 World Championship in Colombia, another national best at the time. Riddle also played five seasons with Coburg in Australia’s National Basketball League.
