Lindsay's Story

Queensland breaststroker Lindsay Spencer emerged internationally as a teenager. At 16, he won bronze medals in the 200m breaststroke and 4x100m medley relay at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, while also placing fifth in the 100m breaststroke.

Spencer strengthened his standing by winning the Australian 200m breaststroke title in 1979. The following year, he made his Olympic debut at the Moscow 1980 Games aged 18 and progressed through the heats to reach both breaststroke finals.

In Moscow, Spencer placed fifth in the 200m breaststroke, recording 2 minutes, 19.68 seconds, and finished sixth in the 100m breaststroke. He later competed at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, where he placed fifth in the 200m breaststroke.
