Lisa's Story

Sydney backstroker Lisa Forrest emerged internationally as a 14-year-old schoolgirl. She won silver in the 200m backstroke at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton and was still attending Cromer High School when selected for the Moscow 1980 Olympics.

At 16, Forrest captained the Australian women’s swimming team during a campaign overshadowed by debate about a proposed boycott. She placed seventh in the Olympic 200m backstroke, 10th in the 100m backstroke and helped Australia finish sixth in the 4x100m medley relay.

Forrest crowned her swimming career at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, winning gold in both the 100m and 200m backstroke. After retiring, she became a sports broadcaster and writer, forging a successful career across television, radio and publishing.
