Lisa's Story
Lisa Lightfoot (later Lisa O'Connell) is an Australian middle-distance runner who represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Born in Bairnsdale, Victoria, on 3 December 1966, she specialized in the 800 metres and was among Australia's leading middle-distance athletes during the 1990s.
Lightfoot earned Olympic selection after winning the Australian national 800-metre title in 1996 and recording a personal best of 2:00.80. At Atlanta, she competed in the women's 800 metres against the world's best middle-distance runners.
Prior to her Olympic appearance, she represented Australia at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, where she reached the final of the women's 800 metres and finished sixth overall. Her achievements established her as one of Australia's leading 800-metre runners of her era.
