Lisa's Story

Lisa Maree Skinner is one of Australia's most accomplished artistic gymnasts, representing Australia at three Olympic Games: Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004. Born in Clear Mountain, Queensland, on 17 February 1981, she became a pioneer for Australian women's gymnastics on the international stage.

At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Skinner competed as a 15-year-old and helped Australia finish tenth in the team competition while also reaching the individual all-around final, finishing 36th overall.

Her greatest success came at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where she became the first Australian female gymnast to reach an Olympic apparatus final. She finished eighth in the all-around competition and seventh in the floor exercise final, both Australian records at the time. She also won two gold medals at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, in the team event and on uneven bars.

Following her gymnastics career, Skinner joined Cirque du Soleil, successfully transitioning from elite sport into international performance and entertainment.
