About Marc
Marc Leishman grew up in Warrnambool, Victoria, it was there his love for golf developed. At 13 he won his first Club Championship, beating his dad who competed in the same group.
In his Amateur career, Leishman went on to win the 2001 Victorian Junior Masters, 2001 South Australian Junior Masters and the 2001 Victorian Boys Championship.
Leishman turned pro at 21 and in 2006 he made his first two Korn Ferry Tour starts. The same year he led the order of merit on the Von Nida Tour, where he won the Cains Classic and Toyota Southern Classic. In 2007 he won a consecutive Toyota Southern Classic title on the Von Nida Tour.
In 2009 he became the first Australian to be voted Rookie of the Year on the PGA tour, this came after he finished runner up to Tiger Woods at the BMW championship and sported three top-10s during the the season.
After 96 career starts, Leishman picked up his first PGA tour win in 2012. His 2013 season accumulated four top-10 finishes, after making 16 cuts from 23 starts. In 2014 he posted a new career best of six top-10s in 18 starts.
2017 saw him take out two victories, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the BMW Championship. He competed in his second FedExCup season-finale, finishing with a No.6 standing.
At the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges and the AT&T Byron Nelson in 2018, Leishman claimed the runners-up spot at both events. His season resulted in six top-10 finishes, with 22 cuts from 25 starts. At the CIMB Classic in 2019, he triumphed with a five-shot victory, his fourth win on the PGA stage.
In 2020 Leishman won his fifth PGA Tour and made his fourth appearance in the Presidents Cup. 2020 marked the 12th consecutive year that Leishman had qualified for the FedExCup playoffs. He won the 2021 Zurich classic of New Orleans alongside fellow Aussie Cameron Smith, and at the 2021 Masters Tournament he made his 3rd top-10 finish with a T5.
Leishman teamed up again with Cameron Smith, when selected to make his Olympic debut in Tokyo.
Over the four rounds he shot scores of 70, 71, 72 and 69 for a total of 282, two under par for the tournament and in equal 51st place. He had finished on a high with two birdies on the fourth round. But there would be more highlights for Leishman on the journey back to America. His parents, Paul and Pelita, were reunited with Leishman after 18 months due to the pandemic, lockdowns and border closures in Australia. They met in Memphis airport where Leishman was enroute to commence his next tournament.
