Margaret's Story
Margaret Crowley is a former Australian middle-distance runner who specialized in the 1500 metres and represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Born on 24 May 1967, she was among Australia's leading female distance runners during the 1990s.
Crowley's finest international achievement came at the Atlanta Olympics, where she reached the final of the women's 1500 metres and finished fifth, one of the best Olympic performances by an Australian female middle-distance runner.
A multiple Australian champion, she recorded a personal best of 4:01.34 in 1996 and also represented Australia at the Commonwealth Games, World Championships and World Cup competitions. Her Atlanta performance remains the highlight of an outstanding athletics career.
