Marilyn's Story

1944 –

At the national titles leading up to Tokyo 1964, Marilyn Black (Edwards) was placed third in both the 100 yards and 220 yards but at the Olympic Games she was the only Australian to make the finals in the 100m and 200m. She finished sixth in the 100m and an extremely close third in the 200m. In the 4x100m relay, she teamed with Diane Bowering, Joyce Bennett and Margaret Burvill to finish sixth in a high-class field. She did not compete in any future Olympic or Commonwealth Games and after Tokyo she married Peter Vassella who placed seventh in the 400m.
