Marina's Story

Marina Ann Hatzakis is a dual Australian Olympian who competed in rowing at the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Born in Sydney on 7 March 1972, she was one of Australia's leading female scullers during the 1990s.

At Atlanta 1996, Hatzakis competed in both the women's double sculls and quadruple sculls. Partnering Bronwyn Roye, she achieved an outstanding fourth-place finish in the double sculls, narrowly missing an Olympic medal, while the quadruple scull crew finished ninth.

Hatzakis continued to represent Australia internationally and won a bronze medal in the quadruple sculls at the 1998 World Rowing Championships. She returned for the Sydney Olympics in 2000, where she again competed in the double sculls, finishing sixth.
