Mark's Story

Mark Anthony Philippoussis is one of Australia's most accomplished modern tennis players. Born in Melbourne on 7 November 1976, he represented Australia at three Olympic Games, beginning with Atlanta 1996, and reached a career-high world singles ranking of No. 8.

At the Atlanta Olympics, Philippoussis advanced to the third round of the men's singles competition, announcing himself as one of the sport's emerging stars. He would later compete again at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004.

Nicknamed "The Scud" because of his powerful serve, Philippoussis enjoyed a highly successful professional career. He won 11 ATP singles titles, reached the finals of the 1998 US Open and 2003 Wimbledon Championships, and played a crucial role in Australia's Davis Cup victories in 1999 and 2003. He remains one of Australia's most recognizable tennis figures of his generation.
