Matthew's Story
Matthew Stephen Dunn is one of Australia's most accomplished medley swimmers, representing Australia at three Olympic Games: Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000. Born in Leeton, New South Wales, on 2 September 1973, Dunn was a dominant force in individual medley events throughout the 1990s.
At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Dunn produced the finest Olympic performances of his career, finishing fourth in the 400-metre individual medley and fifth in the 200-metre individual medley. He also swam in Australia's 4 × 100-metre and 4 × 200-metre freestyle relay teams, with the latter finishing fourth.
Dunn enjoyed tremendous international success, winning multiple Commonwealth Games gold medals, Pan Pacific titles and World Short Course Championship gold medals. He also helped Australia set world records in relay events and held the short-course world record in the 400-metre individual medley.
