Mervyn's Story
Dual Olympian Merv Bennett joined Denis Pigott, Bill Roycroft and Wayne Roycroft in winning a bronze medal in equestrian’s three-day event in 1976. Bennett, riding Regal Reign, enjoyed a fine Olympics in Montreal, also placing 12th in the three-day individual event. Eight years later, Bennett and Regal Reign returned to the Olympics arena in Los Angeles, placing fifth in the team event and 19th in the individual event.
Mervyn was selected onto the Moscow 1980 Australian Olympic Team but was not able to compete after his sport federation decided to abide by the Government's boycott, and chose not send athletes.
