Michael's Story

Michael Andrew Murphy is a former Australian diver who represented Australia at the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Born in Brisbane on 29 November 1973, Murphy was one of Australia's most accomplished divers during the 1990s.

Although he narrowly missed an Olympic medal with a fourth-place finish in the 3-metre springboard at Barcelona 1992, he remained among the world's elite divers and returned to compete at Atlanta 1996.

Murphy's greatest success came at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada, where he won gold medals in both the 3-metre springboard and 10-metre platform events, along with a silver medal in the 1-metre springboard. Following retirement, he served in leadership roles within Diving Australia and built a distinguished professional career in business and finance.
