Micheal's Story
Micheal Yoshihide Nakamura is a former Australian baseball pitcher who represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Born in Nara, Japan, on 6 September 1976, he moved to Australia as a child and developed into one of the country's most successful baseball exports.
Nakamura was a member of Australia's baseball team at Atlanta 1996, helping the nation compete against the world's leading baseball powers. He later returned for a second Olympic appearance at Sydney 2000.
Following his Olympic career, Nakamura reached Major League Baseball with the Minnesota Twins and Toronto Blue Jays before achieving major success in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball competition. He became a Pacific League saves leader, won multiple Japan Series championships and was inducted into the Baseball Australia Hall of Fame in 2016.
