Mick's Story
Michael “Mick” Pikos is an Australian freestyle wrestler who represented Australia at the 1980 Moscow and 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Born on the Greek island of Kalymnos on 21 June 1954, he enjoyed one of the longest elite wrestling careers in Australian sporting history.
At Atlanta 1996, Pikos competed in the men's super-heavyweight freestyle division, returning to Olympic competition 16 years after his first Olympic appearance in Moscow. This remarkable longevity reflected his dedication and competitiveness at the highest level.
Pikos also enjoyed success at Commonwealth and Oceania level, winning a silver medal at the 1978 Commonwealth Games and claiming Oceania Championship titles in 1995 and 1996. He remains a notable figure in Australian wrestling history.
