Nathan's Story

Nathan Baggaley finished second, behind Canada’s Adam van Koeverden, in the K1 500 metres at Athens 2004. He had previously finished a close fourth in the K1 1000m where van Koeverden placed third. Entering Athens, Baggaley was the favourite for the K1 500, based on his World Championships in 2002 and 2003. He had finished 10th in the event at Sydney 2000.

About an hour after finishing second in the K1 500 metres, Baggaley joined with Clint Robinson to claim a further silver medal in the K2 500 metres. The two medals made Baggaley Australia’s first multiple canoeing medallist at one Olympic Games.
