Pam's Story
Pam Marshall, then known as Pam Westendorf, began rowing as a schoolgirl in Dimboola, Victoria. She represented Dimboola Rowing Club before later competing for Melbourne University. Marshall made her senior Australian debut at the 1978 World Championships, placing eighth in the women’s eight.
Marshall was 20 when she competed at the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games, where Australia entered a women’s rowing crew for the first time. Rowing in the three seat of the coxed four, she helped the crew advance through the repechage and into the final. Australia finished fifth in 3 minutes, 26.37 seconds.
Marshall represented Australia at five World Championships across a career spanning open and lightweight rowing. Her finest international result came at the 1990 World Championships in Tasmania, where she won silver in the lightweight coxless four. A winner of 23 Australian championships, Marshall later remained involved in rowing as a club and school coach.
