Paul's Story
Paul Marcus Cleary is a former Australian middle-distance runner who represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games in the 1,500 metres. Born in Melbourne on 28 April 1976, he emerged as one of Australia's top middle-distance athletes during the late 1990s.
Cleary competed in the men's 1,500 metres at Atlanta 1996, gaining valuable Olympic experience while still early in his international career. He had previously finished sixth at the 1994 World Junior Championships.
Following the Olympics, Cleary continued to improve and achieved a personal best of 3:36.20 in 1999. He also won Australian national titles and represented Australia in a range of international competitions.
