Peter's Story
Peter John Winter is a former Australian decathlete who represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Born in Melbourne on 17 January 1971, Winter was one of Australia's leading combined-events athletes during the 1990s.
Winter achieved international success at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada, where he won the silver medal in the decathlon while setting an Australian record of 8,074 points. He later improved the national record to 8,084 points in 1996 while qualifying for the Olympic Games.
At Atlanta 1996, Winter competed in the decathlon but was unable to complete the event after recording no mark in the long jump. Despite this setback, he remains one of Australia's most accomplished decathletes and a former national record holder.
