Raymond's Story
1962 –
Ray Borner was one of the mainstays of the men’s basketball team at four Olympics, Los Angeles 1984, Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996. The team’s best results over that time were fourth placings at Seoul and Atlanta.
In 1985, Borner was the first Australian player to win the National Basketball League’s (NBL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, with all previous winners being from the United States. The next Australian winner of the NBL MVP was Andre Gaze, six seasons later. Borner played in four world championships.
He is a member of the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame. In 2009, he received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) ‘for ‘service to basketball’.
