Remo's Story

Italian-born Remo Sansonetti established himself in Australian cycling alongside his twin brother, Sal. After winning an Italian team pursuit title in 1971, Sansonetti represented Australia at Munich 1972, aged 26, placing ninth in the 4000-metre team pursuit. He moved to road cycling and won bronze in the road race at the 1974 Commonwealth Games before claiming the Australian road title in 1976.

At Montreal 1976, Sansonetti finished 34th in the road race and ninth in the team time trial. He returned for a third Olympics at Moscow 1980, placing 11th in the team time trial but not finishing the road race. Sansonetti ended his international career at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, winning silver in the team time trial. He and Sal later produced bicycles for Australia’s track cycling team.
