Richard's Story

Richard Weiss is a former Australian freestyle wrestler who represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Born in Košice, then Czechoslovakia, on 1 July 1973, Weiss emigrated to Australia in 1989 and quickly became one of the country's leading wrestlers.

At the Atlanta Olympics, Weiss competed in the men's freestyle 68 kg division, finishing 16th overall. He qualified for the Games after winning the 1996 Oceania Championship in his weight class.

Weiss represented Australia at three World Championships and earned a reputation as a multiple Australian champion and Oceania champion. Following his competitive career, he became a wrestling coach, helping develop young wrestlers in Victoria and sharing the experience gained from competing at the highest international level.
