Robert's Story
Robert “Rob” Jahrling is an Australian rower who represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta, 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Born in East Berlin on 14 February 1974, Jahrling comes from a remarkable rowing family, with both parents Olympic gold medallists for East Germany.
At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Jahrling raced in the Australian men's eight, which finished sixth. The crew included fellow Olympians such as Richard Wearne and Robert Walker and was among the strongest Australian eights of the era.
Jahrling later achieved his greatest Olympic success at Sydney 2000, winning a silver medal in the men's eight. Across his career he also earned medals at World Championships, Rowing World Cups and Commonwealth-level competition, establishing himself as one of Australia's leading rowers.
