Robert's Story
Robert Lang represented Australia in rowing at the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games. Aged 25, he competed with John Bolt in the men’s coxless pair, an event requiring the two rowers to steer and propel the boat without a coxswain.
Lang and Bolt placed fifth in their opening heat before improving to third in the repechage. They recorded their fastest time of the regatta in the semi-final, finishing sixth in 7 minutes, 11.76 seconds. The Australian pair was ranked 10th overall, completing Lang’s sole Olympic campaign during a Games marked by considerable political pressure surrounding Australia’s participation.
