Ronald's Story

A young Ron Baensch was Australia’s best performed cyclist at Rome 1960. He wasn’t over-awed at his first and only Olympic appearance, matching it with the much more experienced Europeans, especially the Italians, before finishing fourth in the sprint. 

A year later, he finished third in the amateur sprint at the 1961 world championships and from 1964 to 1966 was on the podium for the sprint at the professional world championships.
