Samuel's Story
Samuel “Sam” Mackinnon is a former Australian basketball player and Olympian who represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Born in Melbourne on 25 August 1976, Mackinnon became one of Australia's most respected basketballers and later a successful coach.
At the Atlanta Olympics, the young Mackinnon was a member of the Australian Boomers squad, gaining valuable international experience on basketball's biggest stage. He later represented Australia again at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
Mackinnon enjoyed an outstanding National Basketball League career, winning championships with the South East Melbourne Magic in 1996 and the Brisbane Bullets in 2007. His achievements included the 2007 NBL Most Valuable Player award, Grand Final MVP honours and multiple All-NBL selections. Following retirement, he moved into coaching at the professional level.
