Shane O’Neill started skateboarding when he was 10 years old and by the time he was 13 he had his first professional skateboard sponsors. He's known for his impressive technical ability, a characteristic that made him a regular in skateboarding finals worldwide.
In 2016, Shane was crowned the 2016 World Skateboarding champion after taking home wins at the Tampa Pro, Pro Open and winning the Super Crown World Championship. He also won a silver medal at the 2016 X-Games held in Oslo, Norway.
Shane kept the momentum rolling into 2017, finishing runner-up at the World Skateboarding Championships. A year later, he added to his 2016 X Games silver when he won bronze in front of a home crowd at the 2018 X Games in Sydney.
At the 2020 Oceania Continental Street Championships, Shane was crowned champion after taking out the open male final. Further strong performances leading into Tokyo, including an eighth place in the 2021 Tour and a 12th in the 2021 Street World Championships, saw Shane qualify for his maiden Olympic Games.
At the Tokyo Olympics the high temperatures and demanding course took its toll, as Shane finished 16th in qualifying to miss the eight-man street final.
In 2020 Shane became one of the first Australian athletes to have their own signature shoe and now has more than 1.4 million Instagram followers.
He is one of only a handful of skaters to have won gold in all four major skateboarding contests – the X Games, Street League Skateboarding, the Tampa Pro and the World Skateboarding Championship.
At the 2022 Summer X Games in Chiba, Japan, Shane claimed gold in street skateboarding and finished fifth at the 2023 X Games in California.
He secured an Olympic quota spot for Paris when he was ranked 21st after an Olympic qualification event in Budapest in June 2024.
In Paris Shane put in three solid runs in the preliminary round to finish the Olympics 19th with a score of 107.50.
