Simon's Story

Simon Graham Arkell is a former Australian pole vaulter who represented Australia at the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Born in Maidenhead, England, on 1 July 1966, Arkell became one of Australia's most successful pole vaulters.

At the Atlanta Olympics, Arkell competed in the men's pole vault, adding to the experience he gained at Barcelona 1992. During his career he broke numerous Australian and Commonwealth records and achieved a personal best of 5.80 metres in 1996.

Arkell's greatest sporting achievement came at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, where he won the gold medal in the pole vault. Following athletics, he built a successful career in technology, healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship.
