Stuart's Story

1970 -

Stuart Carruthers won a bronze medal as a member of the Australian men’s hockey team in 1996. The team went through the preliminary round undefeated, recording four wins and a draw from its five matches. In the semi-final they were defeated by Spain 2-1. The Kookaburras returned to their winning ways in the bronze medal final, beating Germany 3-2. Carruthers has stayed involved in the sport as an administrator. His wife, Lisa Carruthers (nee Powell), won consecutive gold medals with the Hockeyroos in 1996 and 2000.
