Tatiana's Story

Born in Russia, Tatiana Borodulina moved to Australia in 2006 and became an Australian citizen in September 2009. She represented Russia at the 2006 Torino Olympic Winter Games, making the final of the 1500m. In World Cup competition for her country of birth she made the podium twice in 2005, and was also the overall European champion, with gold medals in the 500m, the 3000m and silver in the 1000m. In 2010, Borodulina made her Olympic debut for Australia, competing in short track at the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games. Borodulina competed in the 500m, 1000m and 1500m individual events, with her best result being seventh in the 1000m. In the semi-final of the 1000m, Borodulina faced off against three strong skaters with four Olympic medals between them from the Vancouver Games. She finished third in a time of, missing the A-final by one place. Little consolation for Borodulina was that her time of 1:29.663 broke the Olympic record and was the third fastest qualifying time across both semi-finals and would have scored her a finals berth in the other race.
