Terene's Story
Terene “Terry” Donovan began archery in Toowoomba in 1964 and developed into one of Australia’s leading competitors. She won numerous national target and field championships and represented Australia internationally for more than a decade. A major career highlight came at the 1979 World Archery Championships in Berlin, where Donovan helped Australia win the women’s team silver medal.
Donovan made her Olympic debut at Munich 1972, aged 27, finishing ninth in the women’s individual event. She returned to the Games eight years later and again placed ninth at Moscow 1980 before finishing 19th at Los Angeles 1984. Toowoomba’s first Olympian, Donovan continued contributing to archery as a coach and administrator and was later inducted into the Australian Archery Hall of Fame.
