Terry's Story

Dual Olympian Terry Walsh was a member of the men’s hockey team that won a silver medal in 1976, Australia’s best result at the Montreal Games. He also represented Australia in 1984 when the team placed fourth. (Australia did not compete in hockey at the Moscow 1980 Games because of a political boycott.) After retiring as a player, Walsh turned his talents to coaching. He was head coach of the Kookaburras, the Aussie men’s team, when it won a bronze medal at Sydney 2000. Four years later in Athens Walsh was head coach of the Netherlands when it lost the Olympic final to the Kookaburras – Australia’s first gold medal in men’s hockey.

Terry was selected onto the Moscow 1980 Australian Olympic Team but was not able to compete after his sport federation decided to abide by the Government's boycott, and chose not send athletes.
