Timothy's Story

Forsyth won Australia’s first high jump medal since 1956 when he finished third in the men’s event in 1992. Aged 18, Forsyth was a surprise medallist in what turned out to be a remarkable competition. Five men, including Forsyth and the gold medallist, Cuban world record holder Javier Sotomayer, all finished with the same height of 2.34m. The medals were decided on countback, with Forsyth sharing the bronze with two other athletes. Forsyth also competed at the Olympics in 1996, placing seventh, and 2000, finishing 14th. He also won a 1994 Commonwealth Games gold medal and a 1997 world championship bronze medal in his outstanding career.
