Wayne's Story
Triple Olympian Wayne Roycroft is part of one of Australian’s most celebrated Olympic dynasties. He competed in three-day eventing at the 1968, 1976 and 1984 Olympics, winning bronze medals in the team three-day event in 1968 and 1976. Among his team-mates for both of his medal wins was his father, Bill, a five-time Olympian famous for his heroic role in Australia’s 1960 team eventing gold medal.
Wayne’s two brother, Barry (emergency rider, 1964; showjumping, 1976; three-day event, 1968) and Clarke (three-day event, 1972) also represented Australia in equestrian at the Games, as did his first wife, Vicki (1984 and 1988, three-day event). Since retiring from competition, Wayne has enjoyed a successful international career as both a coach and official in three-day eventing. He has been an Olympic coach for Australia.
Wayne was selected onto the Moscow 1980 Australian Olympic Team but was not able to compete after his sport federation decided to abide by the Government's boycott, and chose not send athletes.
