En Route to Paris 2024: Diamond League Finals, key Paris 2024 events in Canoe Slalom, Sailing and Skateboarding plus more

Aussie athletes will continue to power their way on the path to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in competitions at home and overseas this week.

Athletics - Diamond League Finals

A 10-strong Australian team will take on the Diamond League Finals in Eugene, USA this weekend with world champion Nina Kennedy leading the way.

On day one of competition, World Championships bronze medallist Mackenzie Little will look to claim her fourth Diamond League podium for the season, whilst 2023 world champion Nina Kennedy, will take on the women's pole vault.

Australia's two fastest female 1500m runners in history, Linden Hall and Jessica Hull, are both eager to continue their season success as they chase after the world record holder, Faith Kipyegon from Kenya.

Fresh off setting a new Australian record, 2000m runner Stewart McSweyn is ready to run the prestigious Prefontaine men's mile.

Day two sees Olympians, Nicola Olyslagers (women's high jump), Matthew Denny (men's discus) and Kurtis Marschall (men's pole vault) compete in their respective events, coming off great performances at the Athletics World Championships.

Women's 800m runner, Catriona Bisset is heading into the meet qualifying in second place, claiming silver last week in Brussels in a time of 1:58.77 and setting an Oceania record at the London Diamond League.

Judo - Pan American/Oceania Championships

Starting today, Aussie judokas are competing in Calgary, Canada at the Pan American/Oceania Judo Championships. The Australian team, consisting of cadets, juniors, seniors and coaches, is one of three countries set to represent the Oceania region.

World ranked Aussie Olympians, Katharina Haecker (8th) and Aoife Coughlan (10th) are spearheading the event in their respective categories.

Swimming - Short Course Championships

The Australian Short Course Championship finals continue over the weekend at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre following on from triple Olympian Bronte Campbell winning the women's 100m Freestyle on Thursday night.

It is a boost for Bronte who is aiming to represent Australia a fourth Olympics The 29-year-old will line up for the 100m and is working towards selection for her fourth Olympics in Paris, in what she admitted today would be her last Olympic campaign.

Going into this meet, Campbell said, "If I think about the road ahead, and this whole year to go... it becomes quite overwhelming so I just kind of take it one session at a time."

"As a little kid it was never about winning Olympic gold, it was about wearing the green and gold. And the thought of going to four Games is way bigger than I could have ever dreamt."

The competition will continue across the next two days with the finals resuming tonight from 6pm AEST.

Skateboarding - World Street Tour

The World Skateboarding Tour is underway in Lausanne, Switzerland with seven Aussie street skateboarders suiting up to showcase their stunts.

Tokyo 2020 Olympian, Shane O'Neill and Tommy Flynn have secured spots in the men's quarter finals overnight.


The competition is the fourth Olympic qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Games and is a major milestone in the lead up to the World Championships in December.

Shooting - Grand Prix 

The Shooting Pistol and Rifle Grand Prix held in Melbourne from today until Sunday, is the final selection event for the upcoming Oceania Shooting Federation Championships.


Qualifying for the 50m Rifle 3P and the 25m Standard Pistol has already begun.

Artistic Gymnastics - Paris World Challenge Cup

Entering the third phase of the World Challenge Cup, nine Aussie artistic gymnasts are headed to Paris, France to compete on the weekend between 16-17 September. Amongst them are Olympians Georgia Godwin and Tyson Bull.

Canoe Slalom - World Championships

Olympic quota spots are up for grabs at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Lee Valley, United Kingdom between Tuesday 19 and Sunday 24 September. It's the first event where the canoe slalom team can secure Australia quota places for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Nine Aussies, spearheaded by Olympians Lucien Delfour and Jessica Fox, have travelled to compete across the individual kayak and canoe event, the new Olympic discipline Kayak Cross, and will join forces for the three-person kayak and canoe team events.

Sailing - Formula Kite Euro Championships

Aussies are set to sail this coming week from Tuesday, 19-24 September, in Portsmouth, United Kingdom at the Formula Kite Euro Championships.

The event is an important milestone on the pathway to Paris 2024 for Aussie sailors,and will feature Breiana Whitehead who has already secured Australia a quota spot in the women's formula kite.
