Australia’s Pacific Games weightlifting Team have given a thumbs up to the Port Moresby training and competition facilities.
Fifteen weightlifters are set to compete next week and on Thursday had their first sneak peek of the competition venue.
Victorian Belinda Van Tienen says the crowd will be huge when competition starts.
“The stadium capacity is huge, we’re not used to that kind of numbers - it's about 3 thousand people,” she said.
“It’s impressive with all new equipment, the same as we’d have for a World Championships or the Oceania competitions.
“The training venue has also been great. It’s at the university and is a partial outdoor stadium."
The first Australian to compete at the Games will be weightlifter Mary Barter.
The Queenslander competes in the up to 48kg division.
She says it'll be a tough competition, because the Pacific region is strong in the sport - particulary the hosts, Papua New Guinea.
