Scanlan just misses World Cup Final medal

Laetisha Scanlan has just missed out on a medal at the invitation-only World Cup Final after going down in a shoot-off for trap bronze in Nicosia, Cyprus.

SHOOTING: Laetisha Scanlan has just missed out on a medal at the invitation-only World Cup Final after going down in a shoot-off for trap bronze in Nicosia, Cyprus.

Featuring the top twelve shooters from throughout the year, Scanlan progressed through qualification as the sixth highest ranked shooter having shot 70 of the 75 targets.

She then managed 11 of 15 in the semi-final, winning a shoot-off with Tatiana Barsuk of Russia to move into the bronze medal match.

Scanlan took on Fatima Galvez for the final spot on the podium and managed to shoot her last nine targets to finish equal on 12 of 15 targets with the Spaniard.

The 25-year-old from Melbourne then missed the first target in the shoot-off to finish a commendable fourth amongst the world's best.

The strong result comes off the back of Scanlan finishing fifth at September’s Shotgun World Championships.

She claimed Australia’s second quota place for women’s trap after a silver medal performance at the Mexican World Cup event earlier in the year and won Commonwealth Games gold midway through 2014.

She will now look to gain selection for her first Olympic Games Team when Australia’s best women's trap shooters fight it out for the two spots in early 2016.
