Greta Hayes first picked up a hockey stick as a 10-year-old at Woollahra Public School.
In 2016, Greta was a member of the Australian Junior World Cup Team where she helped the Aussie side to a bronze medal. Two years later, she played in the 2017 Australian Hockey League with the NSW Arrows. Scoring during the grand final match, Greta's team was triumphant and finished the tournament with a 7-6 win over the WA Diamonds.
At 22 years of age Greta debuted with the Hockeyroos at the 2018 Champions Trophy in China, playing against Argentina. A year later she was added to the National Senior Women's Squad for 2019, moving from her hometown of Sydney to Perth to join the high-performance program.
Greta made her Olympic debut as part of the Hockeyroos squad that travelled to Japan for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (in 2021). An undefeated group stage for Australia was followed up by a tense quarter-final loss against India, which ended 1-0.
