John's Story

Sydney-sider John Farrow took to the PyeongChang 2018 skeleton track for his second Olympic appearance where he finished in 19th, declaring the South Korean Games would be his final Olympic appearance.

The 35-year-old made his Olympic debut in the daring sport of skeleton at the 2014 Sochi Games, recording an Australian best result of 17th.

His achievement is a testament to his dedication to rehabilitation after suffering debilitating injuries in a land training accident back in 2011. While warming up off the ice on a running track at the World Cup in Lake Placid, Farrow tripped on his spikes and his knee went sideways, rupturing his ACL, LCL, hamstring, popliteal tendon, breaking his tibia and doing peroneal nerve damage. He suffered a condition called foot drop and worked with specialists to have a foot brace fitted to support his affected foot in the lead up to the Games. Farrow overcame his injuries but without the full use of his left foot, still didn't have the strength and power in his start to successfully challenge for the medals in Sochi.

Prior to skeleton, Farrow competed in Downhill Mountain Biking. In 2008 whilst on tour in Whistler, Canada, Farrow found himself with two broken shoulder blades and watched as the Vancouver 2010 skeleton track was being built. Three months later he was in Calgary trying the sport for the first time and the rest is history.

The Sochi Olympian was crowned overall North American Cup Champion for the 2016/2017 season, marking his first overall title after nine years of sliding. In September 2017, Farrow became a father to a beautiful daughter, Isla.
