Madison Ashby started her career in rugby league at the age of seven and quickly proved she was one to watch. At 13, she was touted as a future national team member.
Drifting between OzTag and Rugby Sevens and managing to juggle both codes throughout her teens, Ashby now has her sights set firmly on rugby.
In 2018, Madison played with the Cronulla Sharks in the U18s Tarsha Gale Cup competition. She won Player of the Year in 2018 and at the age of 17 scored 18 tries in 10 games to get the Sharks to the grand final. She scored again in the season decider against the Newcastle Knights for a 32-22 win.
After training with the Australian rugby sevens team for a year, Madison was called up to make her debut in the opening round of the 2019 World Series, held in Colorado. Also being a member of the 13-woman Australian team at the Oceania Sevens, held in Townsville.
Ashby made her Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 games, as part of the Women's Rugby Sevens team. She would score in Australia's second game of the competition, during their 26-10 victory over China. Helping the Australian squad advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament, where they would lose a closely contested match against Fiji 14-12.
Madison would add her second of the tournament, in Australia's final game of the tournament against the United States. They would go on to win 17-7 against the USA and claim 5th overall at the competition.
