Australia's best street and park skateboarders will be competing in Rome and Sydney this weekend with high stakes, plus the Canoe Slalom 2023 World Cup season is set for a climactic end in France.
Skateboarding - Park World Championships and Street League Tour
The Skateboarding Park World Championships wraps up over the weekend in Lido di Osto Rome, with 17 Aussie skateboarders vying for the title of world champion.
Keefer Wilson was the best of the eight Aussie men, finishing 10th to progress through to the quarter-finals. Poppy Olsen placed 17th, the highest of the Aussie women skaters, with a total score of 71.03. Aspiring Paris 2024 Olympian, Ruby Trew is set to compete in Rome this weekend.
The competition also provides an opportunity for skaters to accrue valuable Olympic World Skateboarding ranking points towards next year's Olympic Games in Paris.
Back in Australia, the Street League Skateboarding (SLS) Tour will make its Australian debut this weekend in Sydney, Australia.
Our top Aussie skateboarders including Olympian Shane O'Neill, SLS veteran Tommy Fynn and rising star Chloe Covell will have the opportunity to compete against the world's best on home soil for the first time in history.
The SLS Select Series kicks off today, Friday 6 October, followed by the Championship Tour tomorrow, Saturday 7 October.

Beach Volleyball - World Championships
The Beach Volleyball World Championships kicks off in Tlaxcala, Mexico from Friday 6th - Sunday 15th October.
The event doubles as the first chance for our beach volleyballers to secure Paris 2024 quota positions, with the winners of both the men's and women's tournament earning a quota spot by name.
Four Australian teams will take to the sand in Mexico, with Tokyo 2020 silver medallists Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy leading the charge in the women's field. Chris McHugh and Paul Burnett, Thomas Hodges and Zachery Schubert, and Mark Nicolaidis and Izac Carracher round out the Aussie contingent in the men's competition.

Canoe Slalom - World Cup Finals
The Australian Canoe Slalom team will compete in the 2023 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup Final this weekend from Thursday 5th to Sunday the 8th of October in France.
The Slalom World Cup season will go down to the wire at the 2024 Olympic venue in Vaires-Sur-Marne on the outskirts of Paris, with double World Cup points up for grabs and the race for individual glory wide open.
Australia's eight-strong team for the World Cup final includes 2023 world champions Jess and Noemie Fox, dual Olympian Lucien Delfour and men's kayak athlete Tim Anderson who is fresh off a personal best performance at the London World Championships.

Tennis - Shanghai Masters
A record number of Australian male tennis players (11) are competing at the Shanghai Masters, including Alex de Minaur, Max Purcell, Aleksandar Vukic and Thanasi Kokkinakis between the singles and doubles.
The tournament runs from Thursday 4th - Sunday 15th October in China and plays a large role in world ranking points the athletes need for Paris 2024 contention, with the singles and doubles team champions able to earn 1000 ranking points.
After winning 16 of his last 24 matches, Alex de Minaur has found himself moving up the world rankings into 11th place, the highest an Australian male tennis player has been ranked since 2006.

Cycling - BMX Racing World Cup rounds seven & eight
Following a successful stage five and six for the Aussie BMX Racers, eight Aussies are lined up to compete in rounds seven and eight of the World Cup from 7-8 October in Santiago del Estero, Argentina.
Tokyo 2020 Olympian and current World Cup leader, Saya Sakakibara is hoping to back up her performances on the track in Argentina this weekend.

Swimming - World Aquatics World Cup
The first meet of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup dives into action today, 6 October until Sunday 8 October in Berlin, Germany. 19 Aussies including Olympians Cate and Bronte Campbell, Kaylee McKeown and Mitch Larkin are set to lead the Dolphins into action.
The meet is the first of three, with the remaining two taking place in Athens, Greece and Budapest, Hungary over the next two weekends.
