Aussie track and field athletes were getting used to competing in Paris, which included an Australian record in the Diamond League, and seven Aussies are still in contention at Wimbledon to highlight the weekend in Olympic sport.

Athletics – Aussies put their stamp on the Paris Diamond League

With less than 20 days before the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Aussies were showing out at the Paris Diamond League.

Paris 2024 Australian Olympic Team member Jessica Hull recorded the fifth fastest 1500m time in history, finishing in second place with a time of 3:50.83. Her time, which is an Australian record, was only behind Kenya's Faith Kipyegon who set a new world record of 3:49.04.

Tokyo 2020 Olympian Linden Hall also set a new personal best, finishing in fourth position with a time of 3:56.40.

In the women’s high jump, Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Nicola Olyslagers took home silver, jumping to 2.01m, with Eleanor Patterson finishing in fifth place after clearing 1.95m.

After making his return to competition after sustaining an ankle injury in April, Kurtis Marschall in the men’s pole vault finished sixth after clearing the 5.75m.

Tennis – Aussie pairs move forward at Wimbledon

Seven Aussies are still alive in the Wimbledon Championships.

In the men’s singles Alex de Minaur is into the fourth round for a matchup against world no.34 Arthur Fils (FRA).

As the mixed doubles enters the first round, four Aussies are in contention. The all-Australian pairing of Paris 2024 selected Matt Ebden and Ellen Perez will play against the Argentinian/United States duo of Molteni/Muhammad.

John Peers and Max Purcell are also competing in the mixed doubles. John is paired up with Nicole Melichar-Martinez (USA) and Max is with the Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska.

Water Polo – Sharks second place in Serbia

The Aussie Sharks have been playing in Serbia as part of their preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

They strung together wins against France 10-7, Montenegro 13-11 and Romania 17-9.

Then a clash with Serbia proved quite the challenge, going down 9-15 to claim silver.
