AYOF2013: After an exciting night of entertainment at the Opening Ceremony, athletes from nine sports got up early this morning to get into action on the sporting fields.

Golf, a new sport for the 2016 Rio Olympics, got underway at the Twin Creeks Golf Club in Luddenham. Scores are tight in the teams event. Three more rounds to go with the heat on Friday expected to be a factor before medals are decided on Sunday. Read more>>>

With records falling in the first session of swimming heats, the action in the finals at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre were bound to be world-class. Sydney 2000 gold medallist Susie O'Neill watched on as an amazing six records were broken in the six finals. The host nation's athletes picked up 11 medals as Australia and Japan shared the gold>>>

After two good wins on Day 1, the Aussie men’s and women’s hockey teams were out for more goals and glory on the Olympic pitch. The Burras took on Great Britain and with scores level at half-time Australia won 6-4. Earlier the Aussie women had to come from 0-2 down before finding form for a 4-2 win. An exciting new addition to the AYOF is the 3 on 3 version of basketball. The fast-paced half-court game is being played in the heart of the city at Darling Harbour and despite the heat the action pulled a great crowd. The Aussie teams have started well. Read more>>>

At Dunc Gray Velodrome, the boards were heating up and so were the athletes.The Australian junior cyclists were challenged hard but came out on top breaking some records along the way. Read more>>>>

From the two weightlifting events the Chinese athletes were a class above. Australian Joshua Wu reached the podium with two national records with his sister Melissa, a diving Olympic medallist, cheering him on. Read more>>>

Powerhouse canoe/kayak nation Hungary dominated sprint competition today winning four gold and one silver medal. Read more>>>

Australia’s two badminton teams rebounded strongly on day 2 of competition, defeating Combined Oceania and New Zealand. Read more>>>

The first medals of the AYOF shooting competition were won, with the final of the women’s 10 metre air pistol at the Sydney International Shooting Centre. Read more>>>

Hot conditions will greet athletes on Friday with competition being held in 14 sports. Athletics, canoe-slalom, diving, gymnastics (artistic and rhythmic), rugby sevens and triathlon will feature for the first time at the 2013 AYOF.
