En Route to Paris 2024: Matildas' final chance to qualify for Paris 2024, BMX Racing World Cup comes home to Brisbane and more

Football - Women's Asian Olympic Qualifiers

The Matildas have gathered in Dubai for a training camp ahead of the third and final stage of their Olympic qualification process.

The team is set to play against Uzbekistan this Saturday 24 February at 8pm AEDT in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The two teams will then face off against each other again on Wednesday 28 February at 8pm AEDT in Melbourne.

This is the final chance for the Matildas to qualify, with the winning team of the two-game series on aggregate securing their position at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games this July.

Weightlifting - Oceania Championships

Held in Auckland, New Zealand the 2024 Oceania Weightlifting Championships are on now and run through to Monday 25 February.

A team of 11 senior Australian weightlifters are set to compete in the international competition against Oceania's best.


Weightlifters' path to Paris qualification is based on world ranking position at 28 April 2024. The Oceania Championships is one of five milestone events, of which weightlifters must attend three of to be eligible for Paris 2024 under the International Weightlifting Federation qualification criteria, with April's World Cup event in Thailand the final ranking event.

Surfing - ISA World Surfing Games

Fresh off the back of a double Aussie World Surf League victory in Hawai'i's Sunset Beach Pro, the Irukandjis head to Arecibo, Puerto Rico ahead of the ISA World Surfing Games taking place from Friday 23 February to Sunday 3 March.

With two female and two male quota spots already secured for Australia at Paris 2024, the competition marks a final chance for surfers to earn an additional quota spot in both the men's and women's competition, with only the top ranked nation clinching an extra quota.

Cycling - BMX - UCI World Cup

BMX Racing
After dominating the first two rounds of the 2024 UCI BMX Racing World Cup in New Zealand, Saya Sakakibara and her teammates Lauren Reynolds, Izaac Kennedy and Bodi Turner are set to take on rounds three and four, held in Brisbane this weekend, 24-25 February.

BMX Freestyle
Freestyle BMX cyclists have arrived in Japan to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic venue for the UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup for 'Park' and 'Flatland' disciplines from today (Thursday 22 February) until Sunday 25 February.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist Logan Martin is set to compete in the event alongside Alec Danelutti, Sarah Nicki and Tokyo 2020 Olympian Natalya Diehm.

Triathlon - World Triathlon Cup

Held in Napier, New Zealand this Saturday 24 February, 8 Aussie triathletes are competing in the World Triathlon Cup.


Australia's two top ranked female triathletes, Natalie Van Coevorden and Sophie Linn are set to take the start line alongside Tokyo 2020 Olympian Emma Jeffcoat and Ellie Hoitink who are both making returns to the sport after injury.

Brandon Copeland, Luke Willian, Callum McClusky, and Lachlan Jones make up the line-up of Australians competing in the men's field.

Artistic Gymnastics & Trampoline - World Cup

Artistic FIG Apparatus World Cup
The Olympic qualification tour continues through to Cottbus, Germany this weekend as Paris 2024 hopefuls compete to earn valuable qualification ranking points.

Trampoline World Cup
Five Australian trampolinists are heading to Baku, Azerbaijan this week to compete in the Trampoline World Cup from Friday 23 February.

Rugby 7s - SVNS World Series

The men's and women's rugby sevens teams are heading to Vancouver, Canada from Saturday 24-26 February for the fourth stage of the SVNS World Series.


The women's team are currently in on top of the standings after winning the first two stages in Dubai and Cape Town, whilst the men's team are tied with Fiji in second position, trailing Argentina in top spot.

The women's team kick-off their Vancouver campaign on Saturday 24 February at 6:52am AEDT against Japan, with the men's team taking to the pitch against Samoa at 9:58am AEDT.

Skateboarding - Park - World Skateboarding Tour

The World Skateboarding Tour is taking park athletes to Dubai, UAE from Sunday 25 February to Sunday 3 March.

The event is a two-part series for Paris 2024 qualifying. The 44 highest-placed eligible athletes per gender will be invited to compete at the next phase of the tour to continue their qualification to this year's Olympic Games.

Hockey - FIH Pro League

After defeating Spain 4-1 in their fifth match last night, the Kookaburras are looking to take their winning streak to six in the FIH Pro League tonight as they take on Ireland at 11pm AEDT.


They return to the field on Sunday 25 February at 1am AEDT against the host country India and again at 11pm AEDT taking on the Netherlands.

Golf - LPGA Thailand

The LPGA tour is back in action this week in Chonburi, Thailand from this Thursday 22 February to Sunday 25 February.

The 72-player field will feature Aussies Hannah Green (No.28), Grace Kim (No.74), Stephanie Kyriacou (No.75) and Sarah Kemp (No.128).

Basketball - 2025 FIBA Asian Cup Qualifiers

The Boomers are in Bendigo ahead of their game against South Korea tonight Thursday 22 February at 6:30pm AEDT, with six debutants set to take the court.

This is the first match in the qualifying series for the men's FIBA Asian Cup held in Saudi Arabia in 2025.

The Boomers will then head to Jakarta, Indonesia to play their second game of the qualifying series against Indonesia on Sunday 25 February at 12:00am AEDT.
