Torah Bright has won the Nippon Open snowboard halfpipe event in ALTS Bandai, Japan, and parallel giant slalom rider Jo Shaw has posted her first top ten World Cup result, finishing in eighth place in Sungwoo, South Korea.
While Torino Olympic team-mates Jacqui Cooper and Dale Begg-Smith were collecting World Cup gold in Canada, Bright was winning the Nippon Open pro event for the second time.
Competing in a relatively small field, the 20-year old rider was too strong for defending World Cup champion Manuela Pesko of Switzerland and 2007 world championship silver medallist Soko Yamaoka of Japan.
Shaw, also a member of the Torino 2006 team, recorded a total time of one minute 43.28 seconds in qualifying to earn a place in the 16-woman final rounds.
In her round of 16 encounter, she accounted for Michelle Gorgone of the USA, winning the first round by 0.38 seconds and then conceding just one hundredth of a second in the second run.
She came up against Switzerland's Fraenzi Kohli in the quarter finals, going down in both runs against the eventual silver medallist and dual winner this season.
The gold medal went to Doresia Krings of Austria, with Svetlana Boldikova of Russia taking the bronze.
Shaw's previous best result was 12th place in Shukolovo, Russia, earlier this month.
She now sits in 28th place on the World Cup standings on 868.2 points.
Krings leads the title chase on 6080 points from compatriot Heidi Neururer on 5230 points.
