Emilia Ahsan has won her way through qualifying at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships and will skate the short program on Friday night, AEST.

The Perth 15-year-old finished in 15th place in her qualifying group, just making it into the 30-woman short program round.

The top 24 skaters in the short program will go on to the ladies free skate.

Ahsan, who is one of eight skaters now being supported by the OWI, competed in her first Junior World Championship last year, but failed to make it through qualifying.

Australian Ice Dancing pair Gabrielle Biffin and Tye Nagy finished 27th in the Original Dance, missing out on a place in the 24-pair line-up for the Free Dance.

Russian pair Elena Romanovskaya and Alexander Grachev lead the competition from Hungarian duo Nora Hoffmann and Attila Elek.

The Hungarians took the silver medal last year, with the Russians in the bronze medal position.
